On a serious note - Puppy Mills

Below is a documentary on a wonderful woman who has made it her life's mission to save dogs that are used as slaves at puppy mills. The footage began over 10 years ago, so it's a little out dated, but the message is clear. NEVER BUY AN ANIMAL FROM A PET STORE! Most of you are intelligent well read people and most likely know about puppy mills, but for those of you who don't, let this video explain it for you.



Since moving to SF, I have been volunteering every Saturday at a local rescue dog adoption fair. Almost every week, we facilitate the adoption of about 5-10 dogs. Some of the dogs are from shelters in the NorCal area that had been given up by owners, while other are strays. But there have been a few that were casualities of puppy mills. Lily was a boston terrier puppy that lived to only be about 4 months out. She was born with Swimming Puppy Syndrone, where her spine is malformed and her back legs are paralyzed. This often led to breathing issues, since the lungs and organs were growing inside a body that couldn't grow with it. On March 13th she passed, weighing only a pound or two. They believe the reason for her condition was the inbredding forced by that puppy mill.
